Volunteers needed

The Westways Wildlife Garden Group supports and helps the School Gardening Club which meets in the garden every Monday lunch-time.  Currently members of the group help the teachers and children during the hour-long session.  This involves getting the tools out of the basement, collecting the compost from the bins around the school and helping weed, plant or study the wildlife in the garden.

You don't need to be an expert gardener - some of us in the group would be the first to admit that we are novices - but if you are available on the occasional Monday lunch-time and would like to participate and support the children please do let us know.  You can leave a message at the school office or enquire here.

Environment Week

Last year we took part in the National Environment Week by opening the garden to the public.  Normally hidden behind high walls, it was a pleasure to welcome everybody into the garden to see what we had been doing.

Thank you too to the hard working band of gardeners who put on a splendid open day just before half term.  The event raised over £800 to support further work in the garden.

PLANTS-PLANTS-PLANTS-PLANTS

Of course, the plant stall requires plants so if you have plants you can donate for sale we want them.  Please being any plants for sale to the garden in the week prior to the open day.  It would really help if you could include the name of the plant on a label!

Wild flower meadow

A very big thank-you to all the children in Y1 who helped sow our wildflower meadow this year (not forgetting the help of the School Gardening Club children for helping dig the garden over ready for planting).  It was a fine day when we were planting and the following day it poured down - perfect!!  If you get a moment when delivering or collecting children do look into the garden to see how the meadow's getting on.
