Who are Friends of Westways? Friends of Westways is a registered parent-teacher association (PTA) which organises social events for children and parents/carers at Westways.  We try to raise money to provide the 'necessary extras' the school would have difficulty financing out of its own budget. We also act as a link with the local community. Parents, grandparents and carers who have children at Westways are automatically members of the Friends of Westways. What kind of events do we organise? In 2005-2006 we organised, amongst other, a sponsored penalty shoot out, two cake stalls, a Junior Disco, a Big Night Out with live music  and a Summer fair with BBQ. Our events are always centred on the children because it is our main aim to enhance their school experience.

Last year we raised over £7500. All children at Westways directly benefit from our efforts; Friends of Westways make a real difference.

 

Does being a Friend involve a lot of time and meetings? We usually once per half term on different days of the week in the Music Room. Organising a big event like the Summer BBQ involves quite a bit of work, but we share this out, with people doing as much or as little as they can manage. We also have a night out from time to time, so being a Friend is not just about work, but a good way of getting to know other people connected with the school.

 

How can I help? We really need as much help as we can get if we are to continue to support the school. The level of support you can offer is really up to you. Maybe you just have the odd hour when you could do some photocopying, or you work in a big office where you could sell raffle tickets. Are you a computer whiz, who could produce posters and artwork? Do you have ideas for fundraising or do you just like to help out on the day? All your support is warmly welcomed and much appreciated.
