About UsAbout usWe are a group of parents and teachers working together to create and sustain a wildlife garden on the site of a derelict playground. In six years we have completed two thirds of our original project including hard-landscaping, planting and the creation of features such as the wildflower meadow. The WWGG's next target is the construction of the amphitheatre which constitutes the focal point of the garden. This area will form an outdoor classroom and will be used by whole classes and provide seating for the children, staff and parents. Back to topThe GardenThe garden, though not completed, already provides precious green space in a highly dense urban locality and it is used daily both for classwork and recreation. Parents members of the group maintain the gardens on a weekly basis and together with staff members assist children from Y4, Y5, and Y6 with their Gardening Club every Tuesday lunchtime. Each Year Group has a vegetable plot and children regularly help with composting and leaf mould collections. The garden has encouraged families to recycle and become environmentally aware. Parents bring in materials for composting and children collect vegetable matter from their school snacks. We recycle with ALCAN and have a solar powered pebble pool. Back to topJoin Us!The group meets monthly to discuss the progress of the project and related fundraising. It actively encourages new members to join and provide continuity of management.
