Who are Friends of Westways?

We are a group of parents and staff who organise events and raise money for the school. We act as a link with the local community and contribute greatly to the social life of the school. Parents, grandparents, carers or anyone who has a connection with Westways is welcome to join us. Back to top

What kind of events do we organise?

A great variety! Over the years we have been involved in or organised the following:-

Sponsored bounce Cake stalls
Junior school disco Refreshments at school concerts
Summer fair International evening
Wildlife garden CD fair

This year we will be organising some of these things again along with many other fun filled events. Back to top

What is the money raised used for?

Last year (2002/3) we raised over £2,000. This has been used to buy a PA system, playground equipment, furnishings and instruments for the music room, the climbing wall and a donation of £250 towards the Story Sack group. All of these things directly benefit the children of Westways, but which the school would have difficulty financing out of its own budget. Back to top

Does being a Friend involve a lot of time and meetings?

We usually meet in an evening once per half term. Obviously, organising a big event like the Summer Fair does take a lot of work, but we share this out, with people doing as much or as little as they can manage. We also have a night out from time to time, so being a Friend is not just about work, but a good way of getting to know other people connected with the school. Back to top

How can I help?

We really need as much help as we can get if we are to continue to support the school. The level of support you can offer is really up to you. Maybe you just have the odd hour when you could do some photocopying, or you work in a big office where you could sell raffle tickets. Are you a computer whiz, who could produce posters and artwork? Do you have ideas for fundraising or do you just like to help out on the day.
